Underwater Archeology is a fascinating topic, which in the Mediterranean, a sea rich in history and culture, finds many outlets in potential activities on real submerged archaeological fields.

The course

The ISDA Underwater Archeology course was born from the long experience of the Superintendency of the Sea of Palermo, in collaboration with expert divers who have worked in fields all over the world for decades. In fact, the Superintendence of the Sea, in the person of the responsible Professor Sebastiano Tusa, has decided to sponsor ISDA’s activities in the archaeological field, acting on several fronts: working side by side in the restoration and creation of archaeological fields in Sicily, affixing its own brand to ISDA activities in the archaeological field and jointly creating this course, whose textbook was written by the managers of the Superintendence of the Sea themselves.

The course is not comparable to the Archeology Specialty course of the same name, be it ISDA or other underwater teaching, which consists of an introduction to the subject; what was desired, designed and created by the Superintendence of Palermo is an in-depth “immersion” in the subject, an opportunity – for those who wish – to begin a training and professional path.

In this course you will acquire a good knowledge of the subject starting from the basic notions of History of Underwater Archeology and Legislation of Cultural Heritage and then considering the prospecting techniques, topographic positioning, underwater survey and excavation methods, to arrive at the recovery and initial conservative treatment of the finds, as well as their graphic and photographic documentation.
